Paul Connolly has been busy making it a hat trick of guest speakers post-Christmas. The meeting on Thursday 20th March at Tor RFC from 7pm will have Keith Lewis as it’s guest speaker; Keith is the laws co-ordinator for World Rugby, a very exciting job that keeps him in contact with what is going on around the world. Additionally, he is the owner of RugbyReferee.net, an online support platform for all things rugby refereeing.
Keith started refereeing in South Wales after a back injury playing at school. He attended the WRU beginner’s referee course over the weekend of his 18th birthday in 1996. Through his university days, he refereed with Manchester and District Referees Society and then briefly with the East Midlands Society before settling in the London Society and then Hampshire Referees. He became an established National Panel and RFU Championship referee. He joined the Premiership Group of Match Officials Team in 2015 as a Television Match Official. His refereeing career has seen him officiate across England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Sweden, and South Africa.
Keith will be joining us to discuss multiple topics, starting with the new laws that will come into effect in the new season, which is bound to bring up multiple questions. With multiple cup games on the horizon, he will be talking about the role of an assistant referee, a role he enjoyed while part of the National Panel & Championship teams. The end of the evening will feature a Q&A session on all things refereeing. We are excited about the opportunity to hear from Keith and learn from his extensive experience in the world of rugby refereeing. Make sure to mark your calendars and join us for what promises to be an enlightening and engaging evening.
The evening will, of course, have announcements from all committee members on how the society is progressing.
